This 6-month program seamlessly blends online resources, online workshops, and practical experience, catering to independent learners who thrive on a mix of formats.
As a participant in St John’s Blended Virtual course, you will have access to state of the art, bespoke eLearning packages, relevant and interactive activities and quizzes, support from an experienced and dynamic trainer and access to a like-minded learner cohort. You will have full access to course material, assessments, professionally designed learning resources, and Popwater Education, a virtual Registered Training Organisation!
The course runs over a six-month period with fourteen (14) online classroom support days. In addition, you will be able to regularly communicate with your trainer.
Using our Learning Management System, you will work through modules at your own pace before coming to your online classes. During these online classes, you will have the opportunity to clarify your learning, discuss topic information, share your insights, collaborate with participants and ’engage with other course participants and your trainer to complete practical assessment tasks.

What will you learn?
Throughout this program, you will acquire the skills to design, develop, and deliver comprehensive learning programs in adherence to rigorous National Standards. Specifically, you will explore how to:
• Recognise, interpret, and refer to VET framework.
• Identify criteria for compliant documentation within the VET industry.
• Evaluate and choose appropriate learning materials, training tools, and assessment instruments for the optimal educational experience.
• Support and adjust for participants facing challenges in language, literacy, and/or numeracy.
• Conduct individual and small group training in workplace skills using available support materials.
• Develop, execute, and assess group and workplace training sessions.
• Enhance proficiency in delivering in-person presentations and public speaking, enabling effective training in diverse settings, both in-person and online.
• Develop learning plans that facilitate the efficient acquisition of skills and knowledge.
• Organise, administer, and assess participant evaluations in various settings, both in-person and online.
• Explore and adopt more efficient approaches to enhance learning in the workplace.
• Stay informed about current trends in learning engagement and acknowledge the significance of adult learning theory.
• Acquire the ability to interpret a unit of competency and create comprehensive learning programs and assessment plans. -
Licensing and regulatory requirements
Holding relevant training and assessment qualification is a requirement of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015.
This qualification meets the minimum education requirement for trainers and assessors operating without supervision under applicable VET legislation, frameworks and/or standards. The qualification is a successor to TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. -
Entry requirements
To enrol in TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, you will need to demonstrate vocational competence in the field you intend to teach and assess participants. Vocational competence is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience and may include holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification and having a strong work background and hands-on experience in the field. Evidence of vocational competency can be presented through:
• Current resume and
• At least a unit of competency relevant to your vocational area
or
• At least Certificate III relevant to your vocational area
or
• Higher qualification (Certificate IV, Diploma, or university degree) all within your chosen vocational domain.If you are uncertain, please email tae@stjohn.org.au for more information.

Admission requirements
Attainment of competency in TAE40122 requires higher than average ACSF core skills (level 4) in Learning, Reading, Writing and Oral Communication. Level 3 numeracy is sufficient for this qualification, although a higher level of numeracy may be required in your vocational area of expertise.
You will be required to undertake a language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) assessment as part of the enrolment process to determine your core skills level and identify any support that may be required during the course. Where LLND needs are identified, you will be provided with additional support, or be provided with information on more suitable courses.
St John Ambulance Australia has partnered with LLN robot to conduct language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) assessment.
Upon booking you will be provided with a link for LLN robot where you will complete language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) assessment. This activity must be completed prior to attending the session.

USI Requirements
Participants are required to comply with enrolment requirements by providing appropriate forms of identification to confirm their eligibility. Participants must provide a validated USI or apply for a USI for their study in Australia. (https://www.usi.gov.au/)

To facilitate your active participation in your TAE Class, please ensure you have:
- Computer (PC or Laptop or tablet) with comfortable seating, a working camera, connected to the internet to access the full range of course resources.
- Dual Monitors (Desirable): While not mandatory, two screens give you more space to work with, making things easier.
- Zoom Webinar Software downloaded on your device.
- Computer skills to produce professional business documents.

Other requirements
If a participant is not already working in an RTO or other relevant workplace, they may require access to colleagues, family members or friends to participate in recorded or observed assessment tasks during the course.

Course duration
St John provides a variety of flexible learning options tailored to accommodate the diverse needs of individuals.
St John considers the participants' likelihood of achieving the learning outcomes when determining the duration of delivering this qualification, ensuring the preservation of the qualification's integrity.
St John recognises that the amount of training we offer forms only a portion of the complete volume of learning, primarily connected to formal activities such as sessions and additional extension tasks.
The training duration for this qualification is determined by each participant's prior experience. Participants with significant relevant experience may complete the qualification in a shorter time. Conversely, newcomers to the profession might take a longer duration, receiving support from our dedicated trainers throughout their journey. The expected timeframe for participants is between six (6) and twelve (12) months to fulfill TAE40122 requirements, aligning with the AQF volume of learning indicators for a Certificate IV qualification.
